Develop awareness of the characteristics of musical sounds and silence
and the diversity of sounds in the environment

  • Identify and respond to repeated patterns heard in music
  • Identify and respond to changes heard in music; fast/slow, loud/soft, long/short, high/low
  • Use and simulate environmental sounds
  • Experience performance through playing instruments, and listening to the performance of others
  • Experiment with vocal sounds that use a variety of pitches: singing in an age-appropriate range, speaking, whispering, and calling, and matching pitches within an age-appropriate vocal range
  • Verbalize or use visual representation or acting out stories to express musical preferences (e.g. how it makes me feel, what it makes me think about, what it makes me think about, what it reminds me of).
